Bao Tran
Saigon courier boss and creator of the mesh app Chạy.
Bao Tran runs a courier business in Ho Chi Minh City and wrote Chạy, the mesh-network app that kept the city connected during Seven-Day Dark.
Personality
Practical, generous under pressure and quietly suspicious: he hides a tracker in every load he carries to know which riders are honest. He switched Chạy's payments off in a crisis "before he could think better of it". He prefers to know what he is carrying, and carries guilt about what he once didn't ask.
Abilities
Knows Saigon's streets, floods and patrols through his riders and Chạy; keeps satellite dishes for flood season.
Background
At twenty-six Bao wrote the first version of Chạy in a room above a phone-repair shop in Tân Bình to stop his riders getting lost in floods. In March 2030, aged thirty-one, he smuggled thirty crates of chips for Gideon Ashe from Cát Lái to a boat at Cần Giờ, which paid for his mother's roof. His tracker later showed the crates reaching Velle in Korvane.
